The annual National Morel Mushroom Festival is held in mid-May in Boyne City, Michigan. Hundreds of mushroom lovers from around the country come seeking that elusive delicacy -- the marvelous morel! Found in nearby woods and clearings, morels are a natural delicacy well worth the treks through the countryside. The festival celebrates the thrill of the hunt. A good year can yield thousands of the mouth-watering treats. But, even when a dry spell or late spring makes morels scarce, the festival is always fun for everyone. Restaurants prepare exotic, morel-laden entrees, kids create morel-themed art, secret hunting places and recipes are shared, and local songsters sing of the morel. The festivities are presented by the Morel Mushroom Festival Committee & the Boyne Area Chamber of Commerce.
